Even More Missions

Every December, FPC children lead us in purchasing livestock for the impoverished around the world.  Heifer gives families a hand-up, not just a hand-out and thus empowers them to turn lives of hunger and poverty into self-reliance and hope.

With gifts of livestock and training, families improve their nutrition and generate income in sustainable ways. We refer to our animal donations as "living loans" because in exchange for their livestock and training, families agree to give one of its animal's offspring to another family in need. It's called Passing on the Gift – a cornerstone of our mission that creates an ever-expanding network of hope and peace. For more information, see: Heifer

Aristacare is a rehab and nursing home on Norwood Terrace in Plainfield.  Every Tuesday morning two or three members of the congregation meet with the residents in the dining room.  We serve the residents light refreshments and visit with them.  Volunteers are always welcome.

We assembled and delivered Hurricane Sandy relief buckets with supplies after the disaster. Teams from the church have also worked on devastated homes two times.  You can join our or the presbytery's efforts by contacting Mike Rountree who works on homes on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month.  For more information, contact: NJMikeSandy@verizon.net

Every January FPC participates in the Scotch Plains-Fanwood MLK Day of Service. People from all over have come to Fanwood church to make wheelchair bags and blankets for residents of local nursing homes. At the same time, local Girl Scouts met in our church kitchen to bake cookies that were delivered to nursing homes and placed in lunches the girls put together for distribution to the hungry by Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Chruch. Fanwood church was part of the team that organized the first MLK DOS, and we look forward to continuing this wonderful day of meaningful community service.

This wonderful, ecumenical annual giving campaign sends 100% of proceeds to "ministries of disaster response, refugee assistance and resettlement, and community development."  For more information, see:  One Great Hour of Sharing
