Sermon Series
Our worship honors the best of Biblical scholarship along with the compassion of Jesus. In prayer and sacrament, we find the Risen Christ present. At Fanwood, we often preach in series so we can take several weeks to dig into a theme, a book of scripture, or a question worth sitting with. Below you'll find our current and past sermon series, along with the scripture, ideas, and stories that shaped each one, and links for selected worship services:
We all have a money story, whether we know it or not. This series invites us to discover and tell our money stories in light of God's money story of liberation and love. Using resources from A Sanctified Art, this series is intentionally direct - it invites us to name exactly what we are talking about and not skirt around it. This fall we invite you to remember, restore, reimagine, and release your own money stories.
Our Fanwood on Broadway summer worship series returns with a new list of musicals to inspire us. Upcoming shows include Ragtime, Pippin, The Wiz, Guys and Dolls, Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, Movie' Out, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamboat (Rev. Ken Macari, preaching), Head Over Heels, and Sunday in the Park with George (Rev. Mary Button, preaching).
A fan doesn't create wind; it sets in motion what's already there. In June 2026, we're exploring what it means to move with the Spirit of God. The word for Spirit in Scripture - ruach in Hebrew, pneuma in Greek - also means breath and wind. we'll look at how our own ministries are the ways Fanwood Church fans the Spirit out into the world.

Our series for the season of Lent 2026 draws from our friends at A Sanctified Art. Inspired by many of Jesus' core teachings, like radical welcome, love for neighbor, and care for the vulnerable, this series invites us to be grounded in the subversive and joyful good news of the gospel.

Our short sermon series in February 2026 will consider Jesus' first major public sermon, the Sermon the Mount from the Gospel of Matthew. We'll look at the opening of the Beatitudes, the closing on worry, and the whole sermon itself in this series.

In the book of Acts, it wasn’t only the apostles’ miracles that inspired awe, it was also the regular, everyday act of building community. Drawing on recent scholarship on of awe, this series explores how we can inspire awe in others through the work of the church.
